Job Overview

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a range of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, graders, front-end loaders, compactors, scrapers, and water trucks.

This includes operating excavator to dig holes and trenches, remove earth, gravel, and other materials, and transport them to designated areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Operate bulldozer or grader to level, distribute soil, sand, rock, and industrial byproducts, and clear trees and rocks.
  2. Drive rock/articulated/dump/roll-off truck to transport and dump loose materials such as sand, soil, rock, coal, ore, and industrial byproducts.
  3. Operate front-end loader to lift and transport bulk materials to and from storage, loading, or processing areas, and to load trucks.
  4. Operate compactor to compact soil, sand, rock, gravel, or industrial byproduct materials to a specific compaction required as part of preparing the subgrade of construction projects.
  5. Operate scraper/tractor to move, haul, and grade earth on construction sites.
  6. Operate water truck to transport water for construction projects, filling and transporting potable water to crews working at job sites and driving a truck equipped with sprinkling attachment to spray water on roadways to control dust.
Requirements:
  • Familiarity with EPA, OSHA, MSHA, and other relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Proficiency in using email, smartphones, tablets, or computers to manage company information and documents.
  • Capability to draft routine reports and correspondence.
  • Maintaining acceptable attendance standards per employee handbook.
  • Approach work with meticulousness, thoroughness, and timeliness.
