Job Title: Youth Managing Solicitor/Youth Solicitor - Darwin

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Youth Managing Solicitor/Youth Solicitor to join our team in Darwin. As a key member of our Criminal Law Team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality legal advice and representation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people charged with criminal offences.

About the Role:
  • Provide legal advice and representation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Youth Court and Supreme Court.
  • Manage the multidisciplinary Youth Team, including lawyers, client services officers, social workers, and personal assistants.
  • Practice manage the Youth section, overseeing and allocating tasks, and developing and implementing goals in accordance with NAAJA's Strategic Plan.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders, including the Registrar of the Darwin Children's Court, Territory Families, and other service providers.
  • Participate in all staff and team meetings, and work co-operatively with secretarial and client service staff.
Key Selection Criteria:
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in criminal law, with a proven ability as a court advocate.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality oral and written advice on a range of legal matters.
  • Experience in management and mentoring of junior staff.
  • Ability to work constructively with a diverse team of legal and non-legal staff.
  • Good time management and organisational skills, including the ability to perform under pressure and handle high-volume workloads within tight deadlines.
