Environmental Sustainability Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Sustainability Specialist to join our team at Nyrstar Hobart Pty Ltd. As an Environmental Sustainability Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting our operations to minimize our environmental footprint and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the development and implementation of environmental improvement projects across various subject areas, including air, water, waste, and hazardous materials.
- Administer the site environmental permit, including environmental reporting and engagement with regulatory bodies.
- Conduct risk assessments and participate in design reviews and project studies, providing technical environmental input to the process.
- Review, verify, and report on monitoring data, and use data to assess trends and identify improvement opportunities.
- Investigate environmental incidents and implement actions to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with consultants to conduct monitoring and surveys or specialist project work.
- Engage with the surrounding communities, investigate, and report on issues identified by community members.
- Develop and deliver training programs to build capability within personnel across the site through exemplary communication, education, and provision of technical environmental advice.
- A degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field is required.
- At least 2 years' work experience in a related field is required.
- Proficient skills in the collation, analysis, and reporting of environmental data are required.
- Knowledge of and demonstrable experience in environmental monitoring techniques and the use of environmental monitoring equipment are required.
- Professional communication skills with a proven ability to influence at all levels on site are required.
