Overview Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets.

Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT.

We have customers across various sectors.

The company is a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, with colleagues in multiple countries and very few office-based roles.

Teams meet two to four times yearly in person, in interesting locations around the world, to align on strategy and execution.

The company is founder-led and growing.

We are hiring engineers who can lead teams to enable and optimise our platform for the latest hardware platforms.

We partner with silicon vendors to optimise our platform on their latest platforms. We integrate next-generation features and performance enhancements while ensuring a common user experience.

Location:
This is a globally remote role.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers
  • Oversee commercial engagements and support timely delivery
  • Participate as technical lead on complex customer engagements
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes
  • Integrate and maintain software stacks
  • Optimise our platform for the latest hardware platforms
  • Display technical leadership internally and externally
  • Contribute to code reviews and documentation
  • Collaborate with other leaders
Requirements
  • Exceptional academic track record
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM
  • Fluency in C, C++, and Python
  • Experience with Linux and operational systems software
  • Experience with Debian/Ubuntu or distro packaging
  • Experience leading software engineering teams
  • Professional written and spoken English
  • Confidence to respectfully speak up and share ideas
  • Thoughtfulness and self-motivation
  • Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
  • Ability to travel internationally
