Infrastructure Developer

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is seeking to engage up to three suitably qualified and experienced integration specialists to ensure the efficient, automated, and reliable deployment of integration solutions across the AEC's diverse enterprise application landscape.

The Integration specialist will be responsible for collaborating with System Analysts, Data Engineers, and stakeholders to design and develop integration solutions that meet business requirements and technical constraints, utilising Microsoft Azure tools like App Services, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Functions, and Azure Service Bus.

The role requires developing efficient, scalable, and secure integration solutions and APIs that connect the AEC's systems, as well as collaborating with cross-functional teams to support these systems through testing, quality assurance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.

The Integration specialist in the Systems and Platforms Team is central to ensuring the efficient, automated, and reliable deployment of integration solutions across the AEC's diverse landscape of enterprise applications.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with System Analysts, Data Engineers, and stakeholders to design and develop integration solutions that meet business requirements and technical constraints.
2. Design, develop, and implement high-quality APIs ensuring reusability, reliability, scalability, and security.
3. Manage API versions effectively, ensuring backward compatibility and seamless transitions between versions.
4. Troubleshoot and resolve integration-related issues, working closely with cross-functional teams to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
5. Conduct code reviews.
6. Plan and execute comprehensive testing strategies, including unit testing, integration testing, and regression testing, to verify the reliability, accuracy, and performance of integration solutions.
7. Monitor performance, identifying bottlenecks, and optimising for speed, scalability, and efficiency.
8. Maintain detailed documentation of solutions, including technical specifications and deployment procedures.
9. Document API endpoints, authentication methods, and usage examples, to ensure ease of use for internal and external developers.
10. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, system analysts, integration testers, and other stakeholders to align DevOps practices with project goals and timelines, fostering a culture of collaboration.
11. Contribute to architectural decisions and provide input on cloud strategy, scalability, and interoperability.
12. Ensure compliance with Australian Government security frameworks.
13. Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, integration patterns, and best practices, and apply this knowledge to optimise and enhance existing integration processes.
14. Support change management and release coordination, ensuring integration components are deployed smoothly across environments.

Essential Criteria:

• Proven experience as a software developer, with solid programming skills in C#, .NET Core, and SQL.
• Demonstrated experience in the Azure integration services, including Azure Functions, Azure Service Bus, Azure logic apps, Event Grid, and Azure APIM.
• Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure services and tools, such as App Service, Azure Functions, and cloud storage technologies.
• Experience in developing secure modern web services with Authentication & Authorization using schemes such as OAuth, OpenID, and JWT.
• Experience with microservices, data transformation, and interoperability standards (e.g., JSON, XML, REST, SOAP) or other API technologies such as gRPC and GraphQL.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles and experience with API frameworks and tools.
• Familiarity with databases, data structures, and integration patterns.
• Experience with API testing tools and methodologies.
• Effective communication skills for collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships in cross-functional teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Proven ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including legal, policy, technical, and operational teams.
• Understanding of Australian Government security frameworks and privacy legislation.

Desirable Criteria:

• Understanding and practical experience with microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and Domain Driven Design (DDD) principles.
• Experience using Cl/CD tools like Azure DevOps to support efficient and automated deployment processes.
• Proficiency in Git, YAML, ARM, Bicep, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
• Knowledge of security testing tools and practices, particularly SAST and DAST.
• Familiarity with the following technologies: Micro Focus Fortify, SailPoint, Service Now, and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Sound knowledge and experience in successfully managing and delivering results within time constraints and with competing priorities.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
