Job Title: Specialist Gastroenterology Consultant

Overview

Establish an experienced consultant to deliver high-quality patient care and medical expertise as a specialist gastroenterology consultant. This is a key role for anyone passionate about improving patient outcomes through the delivery of exceptional clinical services.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide specialist clinics for patients with complex gastrointestinal conditions, including luminal IBD and advanced endoscopy techniques.
  2. Participate in the consultant on-call rota and work closely with the existing gastroenterology team to ensure seamless care delivery.
  3. Develop and maintain sub-specialty interests, contributing to the growth and development of the gastroenterology service.
  4. Contribute to the education and training of junior staff and undergraduates, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and professional development.
Contract and Working Pattern
  • The post consists of 10 programmed activities (PAs), including 2 special programme activities (SPAs). Any additional PAs will be discussed and job planned with the successful appointee.
  • Each gastroenterologist spends 5 weeks looking after medical gastroenterology patients on a designated GI ward, undertaking two ward rounds per week when on the wards.
  • When off the wards, ward-round sessions may be utilised for extra service provision, such as an extra clinic and/or an extra endoscopy list, depending on service needs.
