Financial Accountant

Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, the Financial Accountant will support the financial reporting process. Torrens University Australia reports to a US Listed parent entity. The Financial Accountant will be a key contributor to meeting the company's commitment to bring more automation solutions and drive process improvements, with the aim to achieve efficiencies, develop staff capabilities and ultimately ensure a work-life balance for all. Day-to-day accountabilities:
- Preparation of timely and accurate journal entries and reconciliations
- Assistance with preparation of supplementary monthly and quarterly close deliverables
- Assistance with periodic internal and external audit requirements
- Assistance with external financial reporting requirements including financial statements
- Assistance with ad hoc financial requests as required
- Identification and implementation of improvements relating to close process
To be successful in this position, you will be a self-driven analytical team player and:
- Have previous experience in an accounting role, ideally 3-4 years plus experience
- Have a genuine curiosity in all aspects of your role and be open to new ideas, approaches and perspectives
- Often ask 'why' in order to better understand the situation, work practices and the principles
- Hold self and others accountable for their actions and take accountability for team and individual decisions
- Demonstrate a strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
- Have a CA, CPA or ACA designation
- PeopleSoft would be an advantage
- Advanced Excel skills are required
- Have up-to-date and technical knowledge of IFRS accounting standards, account preparation and reporting & internal controls over financial reporting
- Excellent communication and experience working in a changing environment
- Ability to work independently
