Job Opportunity

The Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who experience severe mental illness to access the necessary care and support required for a successful transition from custody to the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilise general case management and discipline-specific skills to ensure appropriate access to mental health care and cultural and psychosocial supports for Aboriginal people with serious and enduring mental health needs as they transition out of custody and return to or reconnect with their community.
  • Develop mental health care plans, establish necessary therapeutic and cultural supports, and provide follow-up community care to people leaving custody.
Requirements
  • This is an identified Aboriginal Health position. Applicants must be a person of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Bachelor degree or higher level relative to role (including Bachelor Health Science (Mental Health) for graduates).
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency for Occupational Therapy or Psychology professions, or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers for Social Work.
  • Current unrestricted authority to practice as a registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and at least three years full-time equivalent post-registration experience in mental health, and approved post-registration tertiary qualification in mental health.
