Cyber Security Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Cyber Security Engineer to join our team in Canberra, ACT. As an experienced professional in the field, you will be responsible for owning and acting as a subject matter expert for key security platforms, ensuring they deliver maximum value.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to have genuine ownership of critical tools, processes, and outcomes. You will work closely with clients and internal teams, making strategic decisions that improve security posture and drive real change.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and enhance at least two core security platforms, guaranteeing their optimal performance.
  • Conduct thorough vulnerability assessments using tools like Tenable or Nessus and lead remediation efforts.
  • Create clear, executive-ready reports from logs, timelines, and other data sources, providing actionable insights.
  • Standardize and optimize security toolsets, bringing consistency and efficiency to operations.
  • Identify task ownership, gaps, and opportunities for automation or escalation, guiding resourcing decisions.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers on audit and remediation projects, adding technical depth and solutions.
Requirements:
  • 12+ months of hands-on SOC experience, showcasing proven capability.
  • Strong knowledge across Microsoft 365, Azure Security Centre, Azure, and/or AWS security best practices.
  • Experience with vulnerability management tools such as Tenable or Nessus.
  • Familiarity with SIEM tools like Splunk or Azure Sentinel.
  • Skilled in producing security reports that bridge technical depth with executive readability.
  • Experience setting up or standardizing security tools or processes.
  • Bonus: MSP experience, plus working knowledge of Windows Server (2008–2022), Active Directory, Exchange, SQL, and networking fundamentals (CCNA or equivalent).
