About the Role

Shenton College Deaf Education Centre (DEC) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Teacher of the Deaf to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality education to Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement customized learning programs that cater to the unique needs and preferences of each student.
  • Collaborate with mainstream classes and small group support teams to ensure seamless integration and effective learning outcomes.
  • Utilize a range of formal and informal assessments to identify individual learning needs and implement evidence-based interventions.
  • Teach Auslan as a Language Other Than English (LOTE) and modify curriculum to meet the needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Desirable Skills and Attributes
  • Teacher of the Deaf qualification or current enrolment in an approved course.
  • Fluency in Auslan or enrolment in an approved course.
  • Experience with modifying and differentiating curriculum.
  • Experience with VET Pathways.
  • Strong knowledge of IT as an educational tool.
  • Specialized language and literacy intervention training.
  • Specialized numeracy intervention training.
  • Training and skills in responding to mental health issues in students.
  • Knowledge of audiological equipment and appropriate use.
