About the Role

The Australian Government Department of Defence is seeking an experienced and skilled Deputy Project Director to lead an integrated team in managing all aspects of the Civil Military Air Traffic Management Systems (CMATS) project.

This exciting opportunity is part of the AIR5431 PH3 Team, which works closely with Airservices Australia to integrate next-generation air traffic control platforms and supporting infrastructure into a safe, secure, reliable, and scalable national air traffic control management system.

The successful candidate will be responsible for influencing and developing strategies, policies, priorities, and operational practices in support of Defence objectives. They will also foster and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships, plan and implement complex product schedules and budgets, and prepare briefings, submissions, reports, and returns relating to project progress and issues.

As a key member of the AIR5431 PH3 Team, you will work closely with stakeholders to deliver a capability that provides improved safety, efficiency, and capacity to enhance joint air traffic management processes and procedures.

About our Team

AIR5431 PH3 is a Defence project working with Airservices Australia to deliver a critical capability that supports Defence and civil requirements.

Our ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in project management relating to highly complex programs, effective problem-solving and deductive reasoning skills, and the ability to manage and lead a diverse high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Influencing and developing strategies, policies, priorities, and operational practices in support of Defence objectives.
  • Fostering and maintaining internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Planning and implementing complex product schedules and budgets.
  • Preparing briefings, submissions, reports, and returns relating to project progress and issues.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate will require:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in project management relating to highly complex programs.
  • Effective problem-solving and deductive reasoning skills.
  • The ability to manage and lead a diverse high-performing team.
  • High-level organisational skills, self-drive, and initiative with the ability to influence others to achieve tasks and business objectives.
  • Sound commercial and business acumen and a demonstrated understanding of the Defence Industry sector in Australia.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this role is AU$145,000 - AU$180,000, depending on qualifications and experience. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known as the Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP), providing a premium in addition to the base salary.
