Cyber Security Specialist

Cyber security specialists are crucial to protecting organisations from cyber threats. They play a key role in assessing and improving an organisation's current and proposed IT architecture and infrastructure.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Safeguarding critical assets, data and systems from cyber threats through the design and implementation of appropriate cyber controls.
  • Providing advice and support to identify vulnerable processes and systems for remediation or elimination of security risks reducing vulnerability exposure.
  • Engaging with stakeholders across the agency and externally aligning with relevant frameworks such as the ASD Essential Eight, NIST and PSPF.
  • Supporting the creation of business continuity/disaster recovery plans and participating in DR and BCP table top exercises.
  • Performing cyber assessments and reviews of digital initiatives prior to implementation to drive compliance.
  • Designing, managing and integrating technical security controls for SMTP gateways, firewalls and defence systems.
  • Creating effective processes and procedures to ensure improved organisational understanding, engagement and compliance with cyber requirements.
  • Developing effective reporting and alerting to aid the business in responding to threats and understanding the pipeline of projects and risks associated with them.

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Extensive experience in a technical systems administrator or cyber engineering role.
  • Expertise in identifying processes and technology risks impacting the cyber security posture.
  • Experience with penetration testing, security assessments and advanced persistent threats (APT).
  • Collaborative skills to work with stakeholders to document secure system design.
  • Ability to manage and implement technologies from leading security vendors.
  • Knowledge of intrusion detection / prevention and incident response.
  • Understanding of logging, alerting and RBAC protocols for auditing and reporting.
  • Experience working within an ITIL framework.
