About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate English teacher to join our team at a Catholic school in St Albans, Melbourne's West. This full-time position involves teaching English to students in Years 7-10 within a growing school community that values collaboration and active learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver engaging lessons that focus on developing advanced language skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing under the Victorian Curriculum.
  • Teach concepts of text analysis, interpreting literature, discussing themes, characters, and literary techniques, and foster a deeper appreciation for literature, writing sophisticated essays, engaging in debates, and delivering presentations.
  • Introduce students to a wide range of literary genres and texts from various cultural and historical contexts.
  • Teach grammar, syntax, and language conventions to help students refine their writing and communication skills.
  • Encourage critical thinking and analysis of texts by teaching students to question, evaluate, and interpret information critically.
  • Nurture students' creativity and imagination through activities such as creative writing workshops, poetry analysis, and storytelling exercises.
  • Teach students research skills and methodologies to conduct independent inquiries and investigations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share resources, strategies, and best practices for teaching first language English effectively.
Requirements
  • Current VIT registration
  • Unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Tertiary Qualification (minimum 4-year degree)
  • Previous Catholic school experience highly regarded
  • Demonstrate previous experience in teaching Secondary English in Australia advantageous
  • Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable).
