About the Role

This position plays a crucial role in supporting the simulation laboratories located in the School of Nursing and Midwifery on the Fremantle campus. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with academic and professional colleagues to provide effective and efficient support for the simulation laboratories.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage day-to-day activities of laboratory staff to ensure laboratory operations are running smoothly.
  • Prepare, set up, and pack down the laboratory/teaching space and classroom materials to support learning and teaching activities in the School.
  • Assist with the coordination, organization, and preparation of resources required for learning and teaching activities, including the purchase of equipment and laboratory consumables.
  • Actively contribute to the planning and timetabling of laboratory programs in the School.
  • Provide routine technical advice, support, and instruction for learning and teaching activities, including the demonstration and use of basic equipment.
  • Assist in the conduct of activities and/or set up of materials and equipment for a range of activities and demonstrations.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and servicing of equipment and laboratories.
  • Maintain stock, including the storage and handling of hazardous substances in accordance with University and legislative guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain safety documentation such as risk assessments, safety audits, and standard operating procedures for laboratory activities.
  • Maintain currency of knowledge for all relevant state and industry-based regulations, legislation, and policies and procedures.
  • Monitor equipment loans to students and inspect outgoing and returned equipment to prevent damage and loss.
About You
  • A degree with subsequent relevant experience, or extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in technical or administrative fields, OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a nursing laboratory and/or high-fidelity simulated environment.
  • Well-developed understanding of contemporary issues associated with education using simulated environments and/or laboratories for the development of clinical nursing skills.
  • Supervise and lead nominated administrative staff.
  • Experience in supervising and leading a small team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, time management, organizational, and coordination skills with the ability to work effectively and collegially within a team.
  • Developed communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, engage, and influence stakeholders.
  • Experience in the demonstration and use of equipment in a learning and teaching environment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining equipment inventory, including its servicing.
  • Excellent operational, organizational, and administration skills, including the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • High level of competency in various software packages, including Microsoft Office Suite, student administration systems, including the ability to learn and implement new systems.
  • Ability to collaborate across multifunctional teams, providing a high level and responsive service.
  • Proven record of preparing high-quality documentation with excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
