About our Team

The Defence Digital Media team plays a critical role in supporting Defence Australia's mission to inform, engage, and enhance the nation's defence through transparent and effective communication.

We deliver high-quality imagery for internal communication, public affairs, and media. Our primary function is to coordinate imagery collation for major operations, exercises, and events like Anzac Day.

Additionally, we manage the Defence Image Gallery and Defence YouTube channel, ensuring all imagery meets strict technical and metadata standards.

We oversee the distribution of cleared imagery to Defence leadership, ministerial offices, and media outlets.

Furthermore, we provide technical guidance to Defence camera teams, manage copyright for external requests, and lead national initiatives such as the Digital Signage pilot.

Job Description

This APS5 Imagery Specialist role involves coordination, capturing, and publishing high-quality images for the Department.

You will be responsible for managing photographic tasks, handling copyright issues, prioritizing requests for support, and liaising with key stakeholders.

As part of the team's on-call roster, you may need to work occasional after-hours or weekend shifts.

Ongoing travel, sometimes at short notice, is also required.

  • Support Defence Ministers and senior Defence leadership
  • Provide quality assurance and coordinate timely release of imagery
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need proven experience in digital photography, particularly in public affairs and news photography.

Strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure are essential.

You should also have an in-depth understanding of photographic requirements, including metadata standards, copyright regulations, and digital asset management systems.
