Occupational Health and Safety Leader

The role of the Occupational Health and Safety Leader is to develop and implement effective health and safety management systems across all sites where staff are located.

This involves improving the provision and quality of health and safety information available to stakeholders at all levels, ensuring compliance with emergency preparedness obligations, and implementing a system of reporting that improves the capacity of senior leadership to effectively fulfill their health and safety responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have technical competency in ESH&S management, including understanding of workplace/occupational health, safety, environment, and security theory, law, rules, regulations, risk management, and compliance practices, hazard management, and systems. Intermediate to advanced competence with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, and SharePoint is also required.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Developing and maintaining the ESH Management System
  • Improving the provision and quality of ESH information available to stakeholders
  • Ensuring compliance with emergency preparedness obligations
  • Implementing a system of reporting that improves the capacity of senior leadership to effectively fulfill their ESH responsibilities

Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for building and promulgating a culture of safety throughout the organisation, developing a reputation for credibility regarding ESH advice, response, and guidance, and providing leadership to all levels of the organisation regarding ESH.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve business objectives.

A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as occupational health and safety, environmental science, or a related discipline, is highly desirable. In addition, the successful candidate should have intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience working in a similar role.
