Adelaide, South Australia Independent Electricity System Operator Full time

Job Opportunity:

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced lawyer to join its legal team. As a member of the Legal Department, you will work collaboratively to advise on multi-disciplinary legal projects, provide strategic legal advice on complex legal, regulatory, policy, and business issues, and act as an integral part of internal and external project teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage electricity generation contracts
  • Acquire new electricity system resources and manage energy contracts
  • Implement electricity conservation and demand management programs, and innovation and grid modernization initiatives
  • Interpret and administer the IESO's Market Rules and related matters
  • Interpret and comply with statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Transmission system planning
  • Disputes arising under or in relation to Market Rules or energy procurement contracts
  • General operations of the IESO, including procurements of goods and services, cybersecurity, non-disclosure agreements, freedom of information access requests, privacy law, records management, and related legal research

Requirements:

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Minimum 4 years post-call experience in corporate commercial or transactional law, preferably in a leading law firm or in-house law department setting
  • Experience in electricity or energy law, infrastructure or construction law, banking and finance law, procurement law, administrative law, privacy law, or regulatory law is an asset
