Logistics Operations Manager

We are seeking an experienced Logistics Operations Manager to join our team at MSD Australia.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our logistics team, ensuring seamless and efficient dispatch of goods to customers.
Main Responsibilities
- Safety First
Ensuring a strong safety culture within the team is embedded in day-to-day work.
Team SupervisionSupervising and coordinating the work of team members within and beyond their department.
Supply Chain SupportSupporting the Supply Chain Manager with various duties and requirements.
Order MonitoringDaily monitoring of order movements to ensure efficient and effective dispatch.
Export ShipmentsEfficient dispatch of export shipments and management of associated paperwork.
Freight InvoicingTimely approvals of freight invoices.
Customer SupportAssisting all subsequent departments with customer enquiries, status, and freight quotes & schedules.
Freight ConsumablesOrdering of freight consumables.
System ControlsMaintaining System controls to aid the team, including backordering of Stock and Undespatching etc.
Team ManagementAssigning and monitoring work/output of team members in line with daily KPI targets and Customer demands.
Logistics GapsIdentifying logistics procedural gaps and assisting in the development and implementation to mitigate business risks.
Staff PerformanceReviewing staff performance, providing regular feedback for growth and development, and using HR platforms for formal performance reviews.
Talent DevelopmentIdentifying talent potential, skill shortages, and training pathways for direct reports to maintain stable production operations.
Budget SupportAssisting the Supply Chain Manager with operational and capital expense budget processes where required.
RecruitmentAssisting with recruitment activities to maintain necessary team headcount.
RosteringManaging team roster and leave requests, verifying, and approving daily timesheets for permanent and contingent workers.
Remuneration ReviewsPerforming remuneration reviews, calibrations, and other end-of-year processes for team members using HR platforms and processes.
KPI UnderstandingUnderstanding and promoting production Key Performance Indicators (KPI) such as Dispatch levels, yield, reduction of waste, and other primary goals within the production team.
Quality and SafetyEnsuring all work is performed in accordance with Quality and Environmental Health & Safety procedures and policies, being proactive in site safety by promptly informing through EH&S Officers and representatives of any hazards, risks, or incidents.
Operator RosteringPlanning operator station rosters and rotations according to operator training level to follow production schedule provided.
Production ReportsCompleting all production reports and other documentation ensuring good communication and record-keeping practices.
Technical GuidanceAble to apply knowledge and skills to other departments, providing technical guidance, and training.
Problem SolvingActively participating in identifying and solving complex operational problems.
Inspection ReportsDeveloping and maintaining inspection reports.
Problem AnalysisSupporting the production on problem-solving analysis.
Quality ComplianceEnsuring goods and products comply with company standards.
AuditAuditing periodically the process according to Production Basics.
Test Equipment CalibrationIf correspond, ensuring test equipment is calibrated and working correctly.
Quality AnomaliesReporting quality anomalies and identifying containment actions to support Tier meetings.
Improvement OpportunitiesIdentifying possible areas for improvement in quality, processes, and systems.
Dispatch SystemEnsuring that the dispatch system is compliant with policy guidelines and properly updated.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Previous Supervisory Experience
Previous supervisory or team leader experience is essential.
Continuous ImprovementExpertise in Continuous Improvement techniques and implementation is required.
Organisational and Logistics SkillsAdvanced organisational and logistics skills are required.
Computer SkillsHigh-level Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel skills are required.
SAP KnowledgeSAP system knowledge is an advantage.
Multiskilled AbilitiesMultiskilled abilities are required.
Customer FocusYou must have a pragmatic, organised, and methodical approach with a customer focus.
Communication SkillsAdvanced verbal and written communication skills are required.
