Environmental Sustainability Traineeship

About the Opportunity

Maxima and the City of Burnside are looking for a motivated individual to undertake an Environmental Sustainability Traineeship at the City of Burnside.

This 18-month opportunity has a focus on waste management, including community engagement, education, administrative tasks, and project support to the Environment and Infrastructure Department.

You will also have the chance to support a range of environmental sustainability initiatives in line with Council's Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

Throughout this opportunity, you will gain hands-on experience in Local Government and Environmental Sustainability, paid training, and continuous mentoring towards gaining a nationally recognised Certificate III in Business.

Duties:

  • Assist with key waste management and environmental sustainability projects and initiatives
  • Assist with waste management and environment sustainability education programs for community, business, schools, staff, and other stakeholders to ensure a high level of knowledge, understanding, and engagement
  • Contribute to Council's operations including liaison with providers of waste collection and processing services
  • Raise and receive purchase orders, receipt invoices, and record data from invoices
  • Respond to community requests
  • Undertake research and keep up to date on relevant industry trends, legislation, practices, or technology within waste management

Requirements:

  • Passionate about environmental sustainability and waste management
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong work ethic; punctual and reliable
  • Great time management and organisation skills
  • Ability to multitask to meet deadlines
  • Thrives working with team environments and independently
  • Current driver's license and reliable vehicle
  • National Police Check (or willing to obtain)
  • Previous customer service experience (desirable)
  • Strong computer knowledge including Microsoft Office
