The role of Financial Accountant is a senior position within the Financial Services Department, with both supervisory requirements and independent processes undertaken in a financial accounting context. As a critical team member, you will be at the heart of our support services function, working in alignment with our vision and values.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team, ready to take on a challenging and rewarding role that aligns with their values and aspirations. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities Act, Financial Accountability Act, and related regulations and Australian Accounting Standards.

The Financial Accountant will work independently to fulfill external reporting requirements, including monthly and annual financial reporting and budget statements. They will provide high-level analysis and expertise on the interpretation of our financial position, preparing and coordinating financial statements journals and providing information for reporting.

This is a management role with supervisory responsibility for the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable team members. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a similar role, preferably in a retail environment or public sector, and be proficient in comprehensive systems and software such as Pronto, Xero, QuickBooks, MYOB, and SAP.

The key duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Fulfilling external reporting requirements, including monthly and annual financial reporting and budget statements.
  • Providing high-level analysis and expertise on the interpretation of our financial position.
  • Preparing and coordinating financial statements journals and providing information for reporting.
  • Generating management reports monthly.
  • Assisting in the preparation and coordination of budget reviews.

The successful candidate will be able to work in a cross-cultural team environment, providing peer support to other team members. They will also be required to mentor employees, address human resource issues, and ensure performance reviews are undertaken per policy.
