About the RoleThe Resource Librarian plays a crucial role in supporting the Senior Librarian, Collections and Library Systems, in managing all library systems and collections. This includes ensuring copyright compliance and key metric reporting.
Key Responsibilities- Collection Management: Coordinate and participate in the sourcing, acquisition, cataloguing, and distribution of digital and physical resources to support students and staff at Melbourne Polytechnic.
- Interlibrary Loans and Document Delivery: Oversee interlibrary loans and document delivery, including maintaining relevant metrics and reporting.
- Budget Reporting and Statistical Analysis: Assist with budget reporting and the compilation of statistical reports and analyses, utilizing the Library Management System and electronic vendor platforms.
- Collection Development and Management: Offer guidance to Library colleagues and reporting manager on decisions related to purchases, retention, or cancellations, ensuring adherence to collection management policies and processes.
- Library Systems and Technology: Assist the Senior Librarian to ensure the functionality of all library systems is fully utilized to support and improve end-user experience.
- Training and Development: Design and deliver library systems training to Library and Learning Skills staff.
- Supplier and Vendor Liaison: Liaise with suppliers and vendors to organize professional development training for staff, as well as suitable resource trials.
- Business Improvement Projects: Participate in Library project teams aimed at improving services to students and staff, including leading a business improvement project.
- Policies and Procedures: Contribute to the development of Library policies and procedures.
- Continuous Learning and Professional Development: Maintain a continuous learning approach regarding future trends and emerging technologies to improve Library systems and associated services.
- Relevant Qualifications and Experience: Relevant library qualification recognized by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), with substantial relevant experience in an academic, public, or educational library setting.
- Technical Skills: Experience with online database and information system technologies, including the ability to assist in the support of technology systems tailored to libraries.
- Automated Library Systems: Experience with automated library systems for the acquisition of resources and subscriptions in electronic and print.
- Information Services Delivery: Demonstrated experience in information services delivery, with an understanding of the creation, execution, and evaluation of collection policies and procedures.
- Financial Management: Ability to assist in the tracking of library resource budgets and expenditures, and produce appropriate reporting.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong technology skills, including a proactive approach to learning new technology and the ability to share knowledge and troubleshoot.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills demonstrating the ability to communicate with diverse client groups.
- Working with Children Check: A current Working with Children Check (Employee).
