Job Title: Medical Unit Support Specialist
About the JobThis role is responsible for providing administrative support to the medical unit, ensuring that all patient records are accurately maintained and up-to-date. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to multitask effectively, and possess a strong attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities- Act as a receptionist, greeting staff, patients, and visitors, and provide assistance as needed.
- Answer telephone calls and patient intercoms promptly and convey messages accurately and appropriately in a timely manner.
- Transcribe physician orders in a timely and accurate manner, adhering to current policies and procedures.
- Maintain patient charts with adequate forms, verifying that all necessary information is included and correct prior to placing them in the chart.
- Order supplies and forms based on unit needs in a cost-effective manner.
- Facilitate admissions, transfers, and discharges according to charge nurse, physician, and discharge planner instructions.
- Handle patient medical information with emphasis on patient rights, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance.
- Maintain cleanliness and order at the nursing station.
- Facilitate maintenance of equipment by completing maintenance requests.
- Demonstrate service excellence initiatives by presenting a positive first impression, anticipating customer needs, and being actively involved in teamwork.
- Comply with employee health requirements for employment.
- Follow universal precautions.
- Work in a manner that promotes safety, adhering to dress code policy.
- Know role in emergency situations and report unsafe practices to management.
- Adhere to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
- Perform day-to-day duties in accordance with hospital's Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
- Operate within the prescribed limits of the hospital's Ethics, Compliance, and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
- Perform within professional Scope of Practice at all times.
