The Senior Finance Officer is responsible for leading financial management within the Lands division of a government department, based in Brisbane's CBD. This dynamic team consists of eight members who work together to provide advice, analysis, reporting, and compliance expertise.
Main Responsibilities- Lead financial management for two Lands business units within the Lands division, providing expert advice on budget priorities, expenditure queries, and ensuring alignment with Financial Management Practice Manual, Australian Accounting Standards, and departmental policies.
- Collaborate with business unit managers to discuss upcoming budget priorities; advise on expenditure queries; ensure financial processes are compliant.
- Review financial reports and reconciliations; prepare variance analyses; maintain accurate forecast data to support decision-making.
- Prepare briefing notes for senior leaders; develop detailed budget submissions; coordinate the divisional financial statement package.
- Oversee the budget build process for operating, capital, and limited-life funding; ensure allocations reflect strategic priorities.
- Prepare routine and ad-hoc reports using SAP S/4HANA and Excel; respond to complex queries from stakeholders; guide Finance Officers on complex transactions and act as escalation point for challenging issues.
- Run stocktake processes; maintain asset portfolio integrity; contribute to control self-assessments.
- Build strong relationships across the division; identify opportunities for training or process improvements to enhance understanding of financial systems and reporting requirements.
- Strong financial management experience in a government or large-organisation context.
