About the Role

The Veterinary Officer will be responsible for maintaining the health and welfare of dogs held in care at the Domestic Animal Services facility in Symonston. This includes conducting basic treatment, de-sexing, vaccination, and assessment of dogs, as well as dealing with dangerous and aggressive dogs to ensure their welfare needs are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the enforcement of the Domestic Animal Act 2000 and Animal Welfare Act 1992
  • Lead the ACT Government's community de-sexing program for unowned cats and other associated partnerships
  • Support the Office of the Animal Welfare Authority to achieve their objectives
  • Manage competing priorities and demonstrate initiative
  • Build and maintain a safety and animal welfare-focused culture

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Veterinary Medicine or equivalent
  • Registration with the ACT Veterinary Surgeons Board or ability to obtain registration prior to commencement
