Investigations Solicitor Role

The role of Investigations Solicitor involves conducting thorough investigations into complaints about lawyers' conduct and suitability issues. As a key member of the Legal Regulation team, you will be responsible for ensuring fairness and impartiality in accordance with the Uniform Law.

  • Conduct investigations of complaints about lawyers expeditiously, examining evidence and determining additional evidence requirements.
  • Review and analyse trust investigation reports, making considered recommendations to the Director, Legal Regulation, and to the Law Society of NSW Council.
  • Manage complex cases, including complaints, suitability issues, and trust investigations, identifying key conduct issues and critically analysing evidence.
  • Examine evidence, draft statutory notices, conduct legal research, and prepare reports with recommendations for the Professional Conduct Committee.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements under the Uniform Law.
Requirements
  • Admitted to the Roll of Lawyers and holding or eligible for a practising certificate.
  • At least 3 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in investigations, regulation, or administrative law.
  • Knowledge of the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW) and related legislation.
  • Understanding of solicitor's trust accounting practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to support others.
  • Effective presentation and structuring of information.
