About the Role

Columba Catholic College, Charters Towers, is seeking an experienced and dedicated School Chaplain to commence as soon as practicable. This role is a term time, permanent position, completing 8 hours per week.

The Chaplain works to create opportunities for faith development of students and advance the religious life of the school community. The Chaplain will foster the experience of Catholic community within the school and engage the community in social justice and social action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the school in a professional, warm, friendly, and efficient manner.
  • Provide pastoral and spiritual support to students, including mentoring and practical support.
  • Engage students in opportunities for faith development, including reflection and prayer experiences.
  • Advance the religious life of the school community, contributing to the development and promotion of Catholic ethos.
  • Foster the experience of Catholic community within the school, supporting events that promote the collegiate spirit.
  • Engage the school community in social justice and social action, making information available to students around issues of social justice support and resource service groups.
  • Encourage and facilitate connections with church/faith communities and agencies, including encouraging student involvement in parish faith communities.
  • Undertake ongoing professional learning, participating in TCE facilitated programs and contributing to local cluster gatherings of Chaplains.
  • Provide generalist administration support, maintaining relevant records and data.

Mandatory Criteria

  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card.
  • Certificate IV in Youth Work, Chaplaincy, or Pastoral Care or equivalent or higher qualification.
  • Current Driver's Licence.
  • Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.

  • Interest in ongoing professional development.
  • Experience in the education or Catholic sectors.
