Job Description

EPA is seeking a seasoned environmental professional to lead our Permissioning team. The Senior Environmental Policy Leader will play a pivotal role in implementing EPA's Permissioning framework, ensuring businesses and activities are appropriately permissioned or approved, minimising risks to communities and the environment.

About the Role

This leadership position requires a deep understanding of the Environment Protection Act 2017, the Environment Protection Regulations 2021, and the EPA permissions scheme and approval processes. The successful candidate will have proven ability to make informed, evidence-based, risk-proportionate decisions and recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach the Permitting team/s, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, integrity, and tenacity.
  • Work closely with other divisions to ensure compliance with regulations and minimise risks to communities and the environment.
  • Drive continuous improvement in Permissioning processes and contribute to the development of high-performing teams.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Tertiary degree and/or postgraduate qualifications in chemistry, environmental science, or chemical engineering (desirable).
  • Senior-level experience in project management and decision-making skills, preferably within Permissioning/Government.
  • Experience in contaminated land management and remediation practices (desirable).
  • In-depth knowledge of the Environment Protection Act 2017, the Environment Protection Regulations 2021, the EPA permissions scheme and approval processes.
