Release Train Engineer

The Release Train Engineer plays a critical role in facilitating the successful execution of complex programs within the Agile Release Train (ART) framework. As a supportive leader, they foster continuous improvement, help manage risks, and ensure the effective implementation of Agile practices.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate Agile Release Train (ART) events, processes, and ensure successful value delivery
- Plan, coordinate, and execute product releases while aligning with the vision and roadmap
- Prepare the ART for Program Increment (PI) planning, ensuring alignment, readiness, and logistics
- Establish and communicate the annual calendars for Iterations and PIs and facilitate all ART recurring events
- Maintain alignment and flow of delivery across the Release Train by communicating with stakeholders, escalating issues, managing risks, and driving continuous improvement
- Promote built-in quality practices
- Collaborate with ART roles (Domain Owner, Product Line Owner, Solution Architect) to lead the train
- Ensure work is captured in appropriate tooling, leverage metrics and dashboards to make better decisions and drive delivery insights
- Act as a supportive leader, coaching ART roles e.g. Portfolio/Domain Owners, System Architects, Product Owners in Lean Agile practice and mindsets
- Drive relentless innovation and continuous improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops
- Support teams in problem identification, decision making, and problem-solving
- Collaborate with other RTEs (Release Train Engineers) and Transformation coaches to improve Agile Ways of Working within Rio Tinto
- Understand and operate within budgets and ensure adherence to Guardrails
- Improve the value flow, focusing on DevOps and Continuous Delivery practices
- Facilitate value stream mapping, identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement
- Assist in managing risks, dependencies, and tracking the execution of features and capabilities
- Coordinate impediment removal, problem escalation, and work to reduce or eliminate cross-team dependencies
- Scrum Master certification(s)
- A SAFe Certification (LPM, RTE, Practitioner, etc.)
- Have Agile delivery and coaching experience, preferably working as an RTE or senior Scrum Master (+5years)
- Theoretical and practical experience utilising various Agile Methodologies including SAFe, Scrum, and Kanban
- Strong understanding of SAFe and the ability to apply it in a Lean Portfolio Context
- Embraces a supportive and transparent leadership approach, empowering team members to problem solve and make decisions as well as prioritise collaboration and personal development
- Ability to successfully influence and manage senior stakeholders, particularly on Scaled Agile components
- Extensive experience in Agile delivery as a Senior Scrum Master, Delivery Lead, or RTE
- Ability to communicate effectively within a team, across teams, and in larger communities of practice
- A strong sense of personal continuous improvement - displays a growth mindset, with a passion for learning, collaborating with others, and sharing knowledge across a community
- Able to build meaningful working relationships across teams and foster a culture of respect, inclusion, safety, and trust
- Ability to analyse situations effectively and make sound decisions confidently
