Support and Guidance Specialist for Indigenous Students

The University of Canberra is committed to providing an inclusive learning environment that supports the success of its students. As a Support and Guidance Specialist, you will play a critical role in delivering culturally safe academic support and skills development programs for Indigenous students.
Reporting to the Ngunnawal Centre Manager, you will work collaboratively with staff and students to develop and implement tutoring plans that increase student engagement and achievement. With a focus on empowering students academically, professionally, and personally, you will use your specialist knowledge in your discipline area to provide guidance and support that fosters a sense of belonging and community.
Your responsibilities will include engaging one-to-one with Indigenous students to understand their needs and develop tailored support plans, utilizing learning and support tools available within the university to enhance student capacity and motivation. You will also contribute to the development of new initiatives and programs that promote student success and well-being.
To be successful in this role, you will require a Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) check, demonstrated expertise in your discipline area, and a strong understanding of how relevant subjects are taught at UC. Additionally, you must be aware of and sensitive to cultural differences and able to navigate complex issues related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student success.
A competitive salary range of $65,000 - $80,000 per annum plus superannuation benefits reflects the importance of this role in supporting the academic and personal growth of our Indigenous students.
