This is a challenging opportunity to join the New York State Department of Transportation as an Engineer Trainee/Assistant Engineer. The selected candidate will be part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS) and will be responsible for performing various duties under the direction and supervision of a licensed professional Engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with bridge inspections, structural evaluations, and load ratings;
- Prepare 3D plans for highway and bridge projects using CADD;
- Develop notes and specifications for specialty work;
- Function as Chief Inspector or Engineer-in-Charge on Department construction projects;
- Ensure work performed by Contractors meets contract specifications and engineering standards and are performed safely;
About the Position:
This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and teamwork abilities. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology and/or one year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems.
Estimated Salary Range:$67,000 - $103,000 per annum, based on location and qualifications.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology;
- One year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems;
- Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE);
