Job Overview

The Canteen Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the school canteen.

  • Key Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing and monitoring the canteen's operations, including rostering volunteers, maintaining records, preparing food, and ensuring all workers sign in and out.

  • Leadership and Teamwork

    As a leader, you will provide guidance to canteen employees and volunteers to deliver an affordable food service to the school community.

  • Supply Chain Management

    You will be responsible for ordering, purchasing and checking supplies against invoices and delivery dockets.

  • Financial Management

    You will process weekly invoices with notifications provided to the treasurer for account payment.

  • Online Systems

    You will operate and maintain online ordering systems, including implementing the Square system.

  • Food Safety

    It is essential that you use food preparation and handling skills to minimize waste, ensure correct food handling and hygiene practices, and prevent food spoilage and contamination.

  • Volunteer Management

    You will induct and train volunteers in food preparation and other procedures to deliver an affordable food service.

  • Sales and Marketing

    You will market and promote products and services supplied by the canteen to generate high sales levels.

  • Stock Management

    You will ensure that stock is kept at appropriate levels and a stock take is undertaken at the end of each school term.

  • Risk Management

    You will implement procedures and processes regarding food safety, health, and safety, and cooperate with the school association in organizing special events.

  • Cleaning and Maintenance

    You will secure the canteen, perform daily cleaning tasks, log maintenance issues, and adhere to WHS policies and procedures.

  • Customer Service

    You will ensure a pleasant working environment for volunteers and supervisors, treat students with respect and dignity, and report any issues arising to the relevant authorities.
