Job Title: Model Supervisor

Job Summary:

We are seeking an exceptional Model Supervisor to join our team at Industrial Light & Magic. This key role will oversee the supervision and direction of a team of artists responsible for creating high-quality models. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of providing project supervision and direction, ensuring that models are created and rendered according to project designs and visual style.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Manage multiple projects effectively, delegating tasks and providing direct leadership when necessary.
  2. Collaborate with the VFX Supervisor and Head of Department to ensure the supervision, quality control, and delivery of models meet production standards.
  3. Consult with key stakeholders to assess technical feasibility and implement production-friendly workflows.
  4. Responsible for bidding and scheduling model work, balancing artistic and productivity requirements.
  5. Be aware of the impact of creative decisions on project schedules and budgets, making adjustments as necessary.
  6. Seek expert advice and escalate when appropriate, acknowledging knowledge limitations.
  7. Attend relevant production and team meetings to promote effective communication.
  8. Work with Supervisors, Production, and Leads to manage troubleshooting and technical efforts in pipeline workflow development.
  9. Assign project work to modeling artists based on individual skills and strengths.
  10. Contribute to documentation for tools and processes.
  11. Test new tools and provide feedback to developers.

Requirements:

  • Skilled decision maker, problem solver, and exceptional communicator.
  • Proven leadership abilities and ability to work effectively with diverse skill sets.
  • Collaborative team-player attitude, open to new ideas and constructive criticism.
  • Exceptional time management, organisational, and delegation skills.
  • Bidding and scheduling experience is preferred.
  • Expert knowledge and experience in Maya, Zeno, and sculpting software.
  • Proven experience as a lead on 4+ shows.
  • Experience in 3D CG for digital animation or visual effects film is preferred.
  • Proficiency in LINUX/UNIX is required.
  • Excellent creative and critical eye for guiding model quality.
  • Technical expertise in other disciplines, such as Houdini and scripting, is a plus.
