We are seeking a skilled and compassionate healthcare professional to join our team as an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer.
This role is crucial in bridging the gap between healthcare services and the community, supporting better health outcomes and a stronger connection to culture for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies to improve access to healthcare services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
- Provide cultural advice and support to patients and clinicians to ensure culturally safe care.
- Liaise with external agencies and communities to improve the quality and continuity of care delivered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
- Contribute to organisation-wide strategies, policies, and programs relating to healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
- Advocate for the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families accessing healthcare at Mater.
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- A strong understanding of the healthcare needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Indigenous status as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. There is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
- Demonstrated experience working in healthcare settings, particularly acute settings.
- Knowledge of and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
- High-level interpersonal, communication, presentation, adult education, and negotiation skills to liaise effectively with multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to function as a team member, maintain confidentiality, creatively problem solve, work with minimal supervision, effectively time manage, and be flexible to meet organisational objectives.
