About the Role
The South Flank iron ore mine is BHP's newest and largest operation in 50 years. It expands existing infrastructure at Mining Area C, adding new crushing and screening capacity, an overland conveyor system, expanded stockyards, and train loading facilities. The mine features a brand new mining fleet, which is the biggest and best in class, and has been converted to autonomous operation.
The Field Officer is responsible for the effective operation of the Autonomous Haulage System (AHS), Fleet Management System (FMS), and Autonomous Haul Trucks (AHTs) while in autonomous mode. This ensures the AHTs can travel throughout the mine plan safely and productively. Field Officers work as part of a team, engaging key stakeholders and providing regular feedback to Production Supervisors, AHS Controllers, and Production Operators.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring the autonomous operations zone for accuracy
- Managing dump plans to ensure the AHTs tip in an optimized way
- Surveying, planning, and validating the AHS to ensure infrastructure or hazards have exclusion zones around them
- Monitoring haul road conditions and placing speed restrictions as required
- Responding to AHTs if they are stopped out of plan and undertaking recovery of AHTs when they are unable to continue on their plan
- Further optimizing the mine plan and haul routes through infield verification
About You
We are looking for individuals with expertise in problem-solving and diagnostics, as well as the ability to communicate and build strong team relationships. Your ability to work autonomously in the field for extended periods of time and multitask between systems and large fleets will make you an ideal candidate for this role.
