The Position:

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician to join our coal laboratory and coal processing team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out laboratory, exploration and production sample processing and coal wash plant test work under the supervision of a manager or project manager.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring compliance with HSE policies and programs
  • Reporting client complaints, incidents, injuries and accidents
  • Identifying and reporting hazards
  • Minimising environmental impact
  • Conducting safety walks, HSE inspections and audits
  • Participating in HS&E training and toolbox talks
  • Communicating safety concerns
  • Performing physicochemical analysis of coal
  • Scheduling test work within guidelines and priorities
  • Laboratory analysis on production, exploration and superintendent samples
  • Processing coal exploration samples
  • Participating in CHPP system audit
  • Laboratory analysis, sampling and sample preparation at port terminals and/or on-site mine laboratory
  • Laboratory equipment calibrations
  • Validating laboratory test results

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • At least 3 years of experience in a coal mining operation
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in coal sampling, sample preparation and coal testing
  • Experience in Coal Handling Preparation Wash Plant (CHPP) circuits sampling and processing
  • Experience in Coal Exploration Programs – Coal Flotation and Density Separation
  • Experience working on a Mine site – on-site laboratory environment
  • Experience in coal training sampling, preparation and analysis
  • Desirable qualifications include:
  • Experience in Coal Vessel sampling, preparation and analysis
  • Grade 12 qualification
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Highly motivated
  • Proven organisational skills
  • Professional attitude and flexibility
  • Safety Conscious and customer service focus
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills
  • High degree of productivity and efficiency
