About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Health Information Manager to join our Clinical Coding Service team at Austin Health. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of clinical coding and data management across our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality clinical coding services using ICD-10-AM classification and 3M Australian Grouping and Coding Applications software in accordance with Australian and Victorian Coding Standards.
  • Apply detailed specialist clinical coding knowledge across a broad range of clinical specialties in a tertiary hospital setting.
  • Act as a mentor and resource to trainee Health Information Managers/Clinical Coders.
  • Work closely with various levels of staff within Austin Health to provide accurate and up-to-date information and advice on clinical coding, DRG allocation, and associated reimbursement.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of comprehensive and ongoing coding education to staff within the service.
  • Participate in the comprehensive internal coding auditing program, including promotion of quality coding and accurate DRG allocation, and provide feedback to all staff.
  • Promote the activities of the Clinical Coding Service within Austin Health.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of a clinical coding course approved by the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA), including a minimum of 5 years unsupervised coding within a tertiary public health care facility.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Senior Coding or Leadership role.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and deliver education and training activities to clinical coders, trainees, and other hospital staff.
  • Excellent clinical coding and auditing skills using ICD-10-AM 12th edition and excellent knowledge of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs).
  • Eligibility for full membership to the Health Information Management Association of Australia.
