About the Role

As a leader in power system engineering, you will be responsible for driving innovation and excellence within a centre of excellence.

The team consists of high-performing individuals who are at the forefront of power system challenges. You will lead technical voices on emerging phenomena, identify risks ahead of time, and enable proactive solutions.

This role involves partnering with stakeholders to provide high-quality service and advice. Flexible working arrangements can be based in various locations across Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the team, attracting, retaining, and developing high performers who embody AEMO's values and foster an inclusive culture.
  • Manage external consultants when necessary.
  • Contribute to leadership and stakeholder trust as a member of the FES Management team, supporting the development and implementation of departmental and team initiatives aligned with overall strategies.
  • Drive future power system study elements of the Engineering Roadmap and Transition Plan for System Security.
  • Develop and maintain power system study capability, tools, models, and future state cases for technical investigations.
  • Lead projects evaluating service contributions of assets.
  • Deliver planning studies in collaboration with AEMO's System Security Planning team and Transmission Network Service Providers.
  • Provide engineering expertise and advisory services to support reform development and implementation.
  • Motivate and enable the team to deliver on accountabilities and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage with stakeholders to provide expert advice on future power system development and energy system issues.
  • Manage team resources, risk, compliance obligations, and performance expectations.

Requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
  • Deep expertise in power system operation and planning, including the NEM transition.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing teams in complex technical environments.
  • Strong analytical skills to review modelled outcomes and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Experience facilitating industry working groups and negotiating complex issue resolutions.
  • Understanding of the National Electricity Rules, the National Energy Market, and the Rule change framework.
