About the Role

The Australian Defence Force Malaria and Infectious Disease Institute is seeking a highly skilled Pathogen Genomics Expert to join its team. The ideal candidate will have a PhD with postdoctoral training in pathogen genomics and population genetics.

Job Description

The successful applicant will be responsible for leading research and surveillance activities investigating population genomics of pathogens, including malaria parasites, arboviruses, and bacteria. This will involve planning, conducting, and analysing genomic and genetic analysis on human samples collected through health surveillances conducted in various countries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct independent research projects on pathogen genomics and population genetics
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to achieve research objectives
  • Analyse genomic and genetic data using relevant tools and techniques
  • Determine the prevalence, distribution, origin, and evolution of pathogens

About Our Team

The Drug Resistance and Diagnostic Department at ADFMIDI is committed to improving malaria diagnosis and monitoring malaria drug resistance. We collaborate with international partners, including the WHO, country Ministries of Health, NGOs, military and civilian research institutions.

Requirements

  • PhD with postdoctoral training in pathogen genomics and population genetics
  • Excellent knowledge and research experience in the field of pathogen genomics and population genetics
  • Experience in genomic and genetic techniques, data analysis tools, and attention to detail
  • Proven track record of scientific publications

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary of AU$120,000 - AU$150,000 per annum, depending on experience. You will also receive a comprehensive benefits package, including superannuation, annual leave, and access to professional development opportunities.
