Support Sea Turtles in Endangered Leatherback Turtle Conservation in Costa Rica
1 day ago
The Endangered Leatherback Turtle Conservation Project is a community-based conservation initiative located on a remote beach in the Caribbean province of Limn, 1km north of the Pacuare River Mouth.
This project promotes sustainable sea turtle projects in the wider Caribbean region by working together with the local community of Pacuare to protect critically endangered animals.
- Nightly and daily beach patrols are conducted to monitor the nesting dynamics, and a hatchery operates to increase alternative livelihoods for coastal communities.
- Volunteers play a vital role in generating income for the local inhabitants.
Key threats to sea turtles include egg poaching and hunting nesting turtles, contributing to a population decline of all species.
Data collected from nesting females improves our understanding of their behavior and helps coordinating conservation efforts worldwide.
It's essential to note that all information above is subject to change. Check the most up-to-date information on relevant websites when applying.
About the Role:- Collect data about nesting dynamics, relocation of eggs to a hatchery, collect data on hatchlings and release of hatchlings.
