About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Railway Ecologist Advisor to join our Environment and Heritage Team at V/Line.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing environmental and heritage risks across all projects and rail construction sites. They will provide advice on how to avoid and minimise environmental impacts, prepare Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs), and undertake post-works inspections and verifications.

The ideal candidate will have a tertiary qualification in Environmental Management, Science, Ecology, or Sustainability, and experience working in an environmental discipline with a focus on ecology. They should also be familiar with State (Vic) and Commonwealth environment and heritage legislation, and Victorian flora and fauna.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical environmental advice to support project development and implementation
  • Prepare and manage CEMPs to mitigate environmental risks
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with environmental controls
  • Develop and implement habitat management and restoration projects
  • Liaise with environment and heritage regulators to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Management, Science, Ecology, or Sustainability
  • Experience working in an environmental discipline with a focus on ecology
  • Familiarity with State (Vic) and Commonwealth environment and heritage legislation
  • Familiarity with Victorian flora and fauna
  • Strong communication and project management skills
