Job Overview

This role is a critical part of our furniture production process, where the ideal candidate will be responsible for applying finishes to wood and other materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyzing technical drawings, work orders, and sample parts to define specifications and requirements.
  • Determining tooling and machine requirements, as well as the sequence of operations necessary for efficient completion.
  • Preparing woodworking machines and materials for accurate cutting, planning, turning, shaping, and sanding.
  • Operating machinery to cut, plane, turn, shape, and sand workpieces in accordance with set standards.
  • Removing old finishes using steel wool, sandpaper, solvents, and paint strippers, followed by scraping softened finishes.
  • Assembling and securing frame components according to established guidelines.
  • Repairing and restoring damaged or worn furniture to its original condition.
  • Customizing furniture finishes to meet client specifications, including matching colours and textures.
  • Conducting quality checks to ensure all work meets industry standards and expectations.
  • Maintaining and cleaning tools and equipment to ensure proper functionality and efficiency.
  • Collaborating with designers, carpenters, and clients to deliver high-quality results that meet project requirements.
  • Advising clients on furniture care and recommending suitable finishing products for maintenance and upkeep.
  • Managing inventory of finishing materials and placing orders as needed to prevent stock depletion.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organized workspace environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Possessing a diploma or certification in furniture finishing, woodworking, or a related discipline is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience as a furniture finisher or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of various finishing techniques for wood and other materials.
  • In-depth knowledge of sanding, staining, varnishing, and other finishing methods, including the ability to operate tools and machinery specific to furniture finishing.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, ensuring that all furniture pieces meet high-quality standards for finish, durability, and aesthetic appeal.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with respect for diverse perspectives and ideas, and the ability to work collaboratively with design and production teams.
  • Strong time-management skills, capable of prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects to meet production deadlines and timelines.
