Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Heritage Officer to join our team. As a Heritage Officer, you will play a key role in the conservation and management of heritage-listed buildings and sites.

Our team is responsible for managing some of Sydney's most iconic harbourside venues and locations, including The Rocks, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour and White Bay Power Station. We also lead the planning and delivery of urban renewal projects that bring new homes, jobs, and public spaces to government-owned land.

In this role, you will work alongside our Design and Place team to help shape meaningful, high-quality outcomes that respect the past and meet the needs of our communities today. You will provide day-to-day advice on conservation, maintenance, planning and heritage interpretation, all while balancing competing deadlines and supporting big-picture programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing conservation advice and undertaking historic research
  • Coordinating the delivery of our 10-year Conservation Management Plan update program
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to advocate for best-practice outcomes

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A sound knowledge of Australian history and heritage conservation theory and practices
  • A willingness to learn and grow technical conservation skills within a supportive team environment
  • Understanding of NSW legislation, policy and planning processes relevant to heritage projects and State Significant sites
  • Experience supporting the delivery of heritage conservation projects, with a focus on quality, timeliness and budget awareness

What You Will Bring

You will bring a deep appreciation of heritage and an ability to advocate for best-practice outcomes across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. You will be highly proficient with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, and familiar with InDesign. Strong written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.

Benefits

This is a temporary opportunity, covering maternity leave until April 2026. The full-time hours are 35 hours per week, and the office location is The Rocks. Salary is relative to experience, ranging from $110,266 to $122,058 + super.
