The Reject Shop is a leading Australian retail company dedicated to delivering exceptional value and variety to its customers. As a Buying Assistant, you will be part of our Merchandise Team in the Garden & Accessories department, supporting the Buyer in administrative tasks, raising orders, and managing samples.


This role involves providing operational support, raising orders, and managing samples in a fast-paced environment. You will be highly organized, with excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with vendors and internal teams. Key responsibilities include writing purchase orders, managing the purchase order process, and ensuring accurate article details.


The ideal candidate will have 1 – 2 years of experience in a retail background, with a strong understanding of MS Office and intermediate Excel skills. You will be analytical, with the ability to create data-driven decisions and communicate effectively with stakeholders. As a Buying Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the timely shipment of goods and maintaining external relationships with suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Write purchase orders and manage the purchase order process with vendors, including follow-ups
  • Article creations and ensuring SAP reflects accurate article details
  • Ensure all mark-ups and markdown management is completed, and SAP reflects correct pricing
  • Ensure relevant administrative tasks are completed in a timely manner on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Use merchandise reports to provide ongoing analysis and interpretation of key business issues
  • Sample management and promotional activity administration
  • Maintain communication with vendors and internal teams to ensure on-time shipments
  • Maintain external relationships with all suppliers and overseas buying agents
  • Manage supplier contact details

Requirements:



  • 1 – 2 years of experience in a retail background
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills to create data-driven decisions
  • Ability to communicate well and build relationships with relevant stakeholders
  • Intermediate Excel skills and experience with MS Office
