Principal Risk Advisor

The role of Principal Risk Advisor plays a pivotal part in providing strategic advice, direction and support regarding risk management, disaster management and business continuity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Risk Management Expertise: Develop and maintain comprehensive policies and procedures for risk management, disaster management and business continuity to ensure appropriate controls, accountability and statutory compliance.
  • Cyclical Reviews: Schedule and coordinate cyclical reviews, maintain registers and records to meet reporting requirements, and disseminate information to promote engagement and understanding.
  • High-Level Advice: Provide high-level professional advice, direction and support on risk management, disaster management and business continuity frameworks to senior officers.
  • Emerging Issues Research: Research emerging issues, identify implications and opportunities, and develop issue and proposal papers for senior management consideration.
  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain effective relationships and networks within the department, across government agencies and with external bodies.
  • Governance Duties: Perform other governance duties as required.
Technical Skills and Abilities:
  • Presentation Skills: Deliver presentations, facilitate discussions, and contribute to reporting and advisory services to enhance departmental capability.
  • Risk Management Knowledge: Maintain detailed knowledge of current risk management and business continuity practices and trends, with the ability to interpret and apply legislation.
  • Analytical Reports: Write concise, logical and grammatically correct analytical reports.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines and adjust priorities as circumstances require.
  • Workplace Culture: Contribute to workplace equity, diversity and inclusion, fostering a culture of respect.
  • Relationships and Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain relationships with team members and stakeholders internally and externally.
