Automotive Repair Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Service and Repair Mechanic to join our team at the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical issues with vehicles and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
• Diagnose and correct faulty vehicle and equipment operation
• Overhaul, adjust, and repair gaseous fuel engines, clutches, transmissions, and differentials
• Conduct NYS inspections and overhaul starters, generators, compressors, pumps, and other equipment
• Diagnose and repair electronic engine control systems, anti-lock brake systems, and air conditioning
• Effectively utilize the department fleet management software and DOT electronic systems to assist in repair, ordering, and managing the repair schedule and parts stock
• May be required to do cutting and welding, make road calls, and test drive equipment
• Complete reports, use parts catalogs, and perform other related duties
Requirements
• Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic, or an Associate's degree in automotive or diesel repair technology
• Valid NYS Inspection Certification and New York State Class B Commercial Driver's License with no air brake restriction within one year from appointment
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical/medical examination and drug test
