This position offers an opportunity to enhance your problem-solving and negotiation capabilities while contributing to a leading organization in the industry.

The Environmental Compliance Specialist will manage a diverse range of permits daily. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the timely acquisition of environmental permits, approvals, or amendments for various assets. You will be responsible for interpreting and implementing environmental regulations, preparing new and modified environmental authorities, and ensuring compliance with these approvals. To excel in this position, you must identify and propose solutions to optimize the environmental permitting and management processes.

Position: Environmental Compliance Specialist

Location: Brisbane

Contract Duration: 24 months

What We Need from You:

Your ability to foster collaborative relationships with stakeholders will be vital. Your interpersonal skills will inspire others to implement changes that directly contribute to our success. Additionally, you will possess:

Education and Experience:

  • A degree in environmental science, planning, or law (essential).
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Environmental Statutory approvals within the resources sector.

Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with State and Federal environmental legislation and policies, alongside a comprehensive understanding of international standards related to impact assessments.
  • Experience with relevant legislation including but not limited to QLD's Environmental Protection Act 1994, Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004, and Nature Conservation Act 1992 as they pertain to coal seam gas (CSG) operations in Queensland.

Key Deliverables and Responsibilities:

1. Facilitating Environmental Regulatory Approvals and Permits:

  • Conducting environmental reviews, developing operational plans, and calculating estimated rehabilitation costs.
  • Advocating for favorable environmental legislation, policy, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Keeping the organization informed about changes to relevant environmental regulations, legislation, policies, and guidelines.

2. Enhancing Compliance and Approvals Processes:

  • Identifying, recommending, and implementing efficiencies (both cost and time) in the management of regulatory approvals.

3. Providing Support and Guidance to Stakeholders:

  • Promoting environmental awareness and compliance with approvals throughout the organization to ensure all regulatory requirements are met.
  • Collaborating with industry peers to share best practices and address common challenges.
