Job Overview

The Principal Naval Architect is a senior-level position requiring in-depth expertise in Naval Architecture, as well as broad knowledge of the discipline within the Engineering function.

This role involves interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices to solve complex problems and improve processes.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of Engineers responsible for design inputs and installation engineering, ensuring timely completion of projects.
  • Conduct conceptual, FEED, and detailed analyses and designs as per design basis, project specifications, design codes, and standards.
  • Provide installation loads on offshore structures to the Structural Engineer at the Engineering phase of the project, facilitating seamless collaboration among teams.
  • Evaluate the limiting weather conditions in which various offshore installations can be performed without overloading the installation equipment and installed structures.
  • Apply in-depth skills and broad knowledge of the business to address complex problems and non-standard situations, providing innovative solutions.

The Principal Naval Architect will be responsible for preparing clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses, including design reports and procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards.

They will manage their own time effectively to meet objectives and forecast and plan resource requirements, promoting efficient use of resources.

Clear communication and explanation of difficult concepts will be essential, as will persuading others to adopt a point of view, fostering a collaborative work environment.

When acting as Lead Engineer, the Principal Naval Architect will direct an Engineering team and lead the Discipline engineering design of the assigned work area, driving project success.

They will ensure that interfaces and deliverables are clearly identified and maintain responsibility for progress and productivity, implementing corrective actions as necessary.

Requirements
  • 15-20 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant, predominantly leading a team of engineers.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture (Master's is preferred).
  • Detailed knowledge of installation techniques and analysis methods, and detailed knowledge of the theory, content, and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable.
  • Knowledgeable in project coordination and execution skills, with registration as a Professional Engineer or membership of a professional engineering society being desirable.

A strong understanding of the Naval Architecture discipline and its applications is essential for this role, as is the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
