Job Summary:

The Principal Solicitor is a strategic leadership position responsible for driving the direction of our legal teams and providing advice services across various funded programs.

This includes leading complex casework, strategic litigation, and providing legal supervision to staff. As the Responsible Person, you will operate in an environment of continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with all professional obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Principal Solicitor, your key responsibilities include:

Casework and Litigation: Lead complex, high-impact casework and strategic litigation to drive positive outcomes for clients.

Leadership and Supervision: Provide legal supervision and mentoring to staff solicitors, social workers, and non-legal staff and volunteers to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.

Continuous Improvement: Operate in an environment of continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with all professional and regulatory obligations, and identify opportunities for growth aligned with our strategic goals.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Eligibility: Be eligible to hold an unrestricted Practicing Certificate and have relevant post-admission experience including complex litigation and people management (preferably 3+ years).

Credentials: Current eligibility for Blue and Yellow Cards (mandatory criminal history screening) and experience in risk management, compliance, and quality assurance in legal practice are essential.

Skills: Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, case management experience, and supervision, management, and leadership experience are required.
