Tyre Fitter Job Description

At Costco Wholesale, we are seeking a skilled Tyre Fitter to join our team. As a Tyre Fitter, you will be responsible for balancing, installing, repairing, and rotating tyres. You will also assist with tyre sales, answer member questions, and make recommendations on tyres.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Locate member cars in the tyre centre area and list any prior body damage on the service order.
  • Drive member vehicles into the install bay, onto the hydraulic hoist, and set the brake.
  • Remove wheels using an impact gun and roll them to the mounting machine.
  • Attach new valve stems, mount new tyres on wheels, and fill tyres to the appropriate air pressure.
  • Operate the automatic balance machine to get a reading of the proper weight and placement to balance the wheel.
  • Attach lead weights to rims using a lead weight hammer.
  • Re-attach wheels to the auto using an impact gun and hand torque wrench according to tyre centre procedures.
  • Alert the manager/lead to complete the 9-point check and authorise vehicle release.
  • Park member autos in the lot and return invoices and keys to the sales desk.
  • Perform a second torque check after the manager/lead on tyres installed by others.
  • Repair flat tyres for members.
  • Clean the install area by sweeping, mopping, spraying, and wiping.
  • Assist members in determining tyre needs, answer questions, and make product recommendations.
  • Sell tyres using persuasive skills and product knowledge and ring up orders.
  • Invoice tyre purchases and install/repair services.
  • Load tyres on a dolly and transfer them to the install area.
  • Receive accurate payment, make change, process credit and debit charges, give out receipts, and submit orders according to proper procedures for paperwork and performance of duties.

Requirements:

  • High School Certificate or higher.
  • Certificate II in Tyre Fitting/Tyre Certification Test (must pass).
  • Current unrestricted Driver's Licence.
  • Mechanical, tyre, or comparable experience.
  • Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and organisation skills.
  • Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and AS400.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Basic math skills.
