Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Deliver Communications Plans: Contribute to the development and delivery of communications plans to inform our community about Council's services, programs, projects, initiatives, and events.
  • Provide Strategic Communications: Provide strategic communications for key decisions of the Council, ensuring that our message is clear, concise, and effective.
  • Support Communications Campaigns: Support the development, execution, and evaluation of strategic communications campaigns to raise awareness and engagement with our community.
  • Develop Key Messaging: Develop high-level narratives and ensure strong and consistent key messaging across all strategic communications activities.
  • Write and Edit Communications Materials: Provide specialist writing and editing for a range of communications materials and channels tailored for various external and internal audiences and stakeholders.
  • Support Brand Reputation: Support brand reputation and tone of voice to maintain and improve engagement across all areas of the business and support Hume City Council's strategic objectives.
  • Monitor and Respond to Issues: Monitor issues of importance and implement strategic communications activities as necessary to ensure Council's position is advocated clearly and easily understood.
  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership: Work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team to support the strategic planning process and delivery of strategic communications campaigns and activities.
Requirements
  • Communications Expertise: Ability to plan, research, develop, implement, and evaluate communications strategies.
  • Strong Writing and Verbal Skills: Specialist written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to write in a clear, concise, and understandable manner as appropriate for multiple formats.
  • Cultural Competence: Ability to gain cooperation and assistance from people with diverse backgrounds and cultures, both within and external to the organisation, to achieve the objectives of this position.
  • Integrated Communications Experience: Experience in the planning, development, execution, and evaluation of integrated communications strategies.
  • Government Experience: A strong understanding of local, state, and federal government and experience working in a political environment.
  • Advice and Leadership: Ability to provide specialist advice to people unfamiliar with communication principles and lead teams to resolve problems and handle complaints effectively.
  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications and/or substantial demonstrated experience in communications, public relations, marketing, emergency management communications or a similar field.
